Christiana Vasilas has been awarded the highest honor of becoming one of the
official photographers for the Proedriki Froura of the Hellenic Republic of Greece,
commonly referred to as the Evzones - the Presidential Guard of Greece.
Come explore their world through her lens,
as they partake in their official duties in Athens and abroad in New York.

It is with the utmost joy that Christiana Vasilas announces her upcoming exhibition,
“The Modern Evzones – Guardians of Tradition”,
at the Athens War Museum this March!
In 2023, Christiana was invited by Consul General Konstantinou
(current Ambassador of Greece to the Czech Republic) to showcase her work at the official Greek Independence Day reception at the Consulate. After seeing how different her work is from the traditional photos of the Evzones, and the awe in faces of the Evzones themselves bearing witness to her work around them when they were in New York for the parade, she was first invited to Athens to photo-document the Evzones on Oxi Day as they took part in their official duties.
Sunrise to sunset and in all types of weather, Christiana has had the privilege to go behind the scenes, into a world not many have had access to. Her collection endeavors to re-enliven the Hellenic spirit and honor the heroes of our great nation within the hearts of the Hellenes and Philhellenes, not just in Greece, but worldwide.
Through her photography, Christiana aims to tell the story of the incredible Evzone in the modern era, cloaked in symbolism that extends into their every move guarding centuries of tradition, against the backdrop of the Acropolis, the Athenian skyline, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Presidential Mansion, the Olympic Stadium, the Good Friday Epitaphio procession in Athens, and in New York up and down the Canyon of Heroes (Broadway), Fifth Avenue, and at the St. Nicholas National Shrine Church at the World Trade Center.
Since then, Christiana has donated 12 pieces to the Office of the Commander of the Evzones as a gesture of gratitude for the honor of being allowed behind-the-scenes. They are currently on display at the headquarters of the Evzones, not open to the p. A curated selection of her work was chosen by the Office of the Military of the President of Greece for the official 2024 Easter card, as well as the 2024 and 2025 official Proedriki Froura (Presidential Guard) calendars, and on the official website of the Presidency of Greece, in two places: official photographs of the Evzones abroad (Αποστολές Εξωτερικού), and within the official recap of the 2024 Greek Independence Day Weekend in New York!
Moreover, pieces from her Evzone collection have been auctioned off to help raise thousands of dollars to support the mission of The Hellenic Initiative, Ronald McDonald House - Greek Division, The National Hellenic Museum, and, last but not least, the mission of the NY Greek Independence Day Parade! For three years in a row, the Chairmen of the Parade Committee have incorporated pieces from her Evzone collection to give out as awards to their honored guests and benefactors, and featured them in the promotional material for the parade.
Her work has gained tremendous support throughout the Greek-American community, as they see it as a way to teach the next generation to be proud of their storied lineage, and inspire the next generation of Evzones!

In her own words...
Of all the incredible moments I’ve had the honor of photographing for the Proedriki Froura (Evzones), last night’s Epitaphio procession led by Pater Stylianos Markantonis with his parish of the Holy Church of the Great Archangels (Taxiarchis) was one of the most moving experiences. Bearing witness to the Evzones together with the Col. Commander Ilias Karmiris, Military Office Director Efthymios Mikros, Vice Admiral, and Vasilis Kikilias, Minister of Environment, Greece carrying the Epitaphio through the streets surrounding the Presidential Mansion and Headquarters of the Proedriki Froura stoping at the Fire Department and Evzone Headquarters for blessings will forever be one of my most treasured memories.
Thank you to the Proedriki Froura for letting me photograph you all as the modern guardians of tradition and humble men that you are.

Christiana Vasilas proudly presented the "Evzones on Fifth" collection of fine art prints from the 2022 Greek Independence Day Parade. For 2 years, the Greek American community, together with fellow Hellenes across the world, were not able to commemorate the 99th and 100th anniversaries of Greek Independence. The collection celebrated our armed forces, Hellenic spirit, and honored the heroes of 1821 whose memory is woven into every stitch of the "stoles".

The exhibition was dedicated to Christiana's father, Chris Vasilas, who suddenly passed away at the end of February 2023. Chris was a proud Greek-American, amateur photographer, who encouraged Christiana to always have her camera in hand, and to see beyond the frame. Over the years, Chris and Christiana attended photography classes, continuing to perfect their "eye", and would explore the natural world together putting their lessons into practice. The news of this exhibition was the last family celebration the Vasilas Family enjoyed together before his passing.
